God Wants Me To Suffer, As He Did, By Fighting Against Sin? But, THAT is Not Popular Worldly Preaching!

Let's start by listening to Jesus Christ speaking with a man who was well acquainted with God's Word (including the prophetic promises of the coming of God's Savior).

John 3:1-21
There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2  The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8  The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit
.
9  Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10  Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11  Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12  If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13  And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15  That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19  And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God
.

The process by which "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son", Jesus was tortured and bled to death, as is recorded in the Bible. He did that to buy me (and all humans) back from sin and worldly living. From cover to cover, throughout the Bible, God makes it clear that MY own sin is responsible for Jesus' suffering and death!! IF I acknowledge and accept that, the gift of His perfect sinless blood redeems me from the penalty of my sin, ...but, ...ONLY IF I believe on and trust in Him and HIS PLAN of salvation, instead of trusting my works or the world. I hold the decision card whether to accept or reject God's redemptive gift to me.

If I do choose to trust Him in repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ (as God desires), what comes after repentance, faith, and baptism by immersion (as He has ordained)? Guess what! He wants us engaged in sharing His Good News and in His holy war against the sin nature of our flesh and the world. As every maturing Christian soon learns, our biggest battle is against the sin nature of our own flesh, as it yearns for 'the old ways' in which we lived before we were saved from our sin.

Welcome to God's war, Christian! May you battle sin earnestly and without fear, as you allow God's Holy Spirit and His Word to fill you and live through you. All glory to His Savior.

1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: 5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

James 1:21-22
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

1 Peter 1:13-25
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Romans 8:10-18
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Jesus tells us to be born again His way and then He tells us to be sure to dress in ALL the battle gear that He provides for us: Ephesians 6:10-18. Jesus does NOT send His family out to play, because salvation and Jesus sufferings are not a game. The Book of Ecclesiastes, especially tells us that life is too short and precious to waste on worldly things that distract us from what God wants for our lives. Throughout the Bible, God rarely uses the word "play" in a constructive manner. More frequently, He associates it with whoredom, fornication, and harlotry. By contrast, IF we want to have joy and peace with God Almighty, here and in the life to come, the LORD tells us to learn to rejoice in Him and in His ways. We shall not come to the end of our lives able to blame Him for where we end up, for, He tells us that WE are the ones who determine our eternal individual destinies of heaven, or hell. He's very specific that, when our present body is dead and gone, there is NEVER another chance for a 'do-over', nor for anyone to bail us out. May you allow God to help you to choose Him and His ways.
