Idolatry Pretends to Know God, But Doesn't Trust the Only Real God

When God tells us to fear and respect and love Him, we prove our love and allegiance by what we do, not just by what we say. It is one thing to fear someone in awe and respect and quite another to fear them out of terror of harm. God wants us to fear Him the first way for that leads us away from having to dread what He can and shall do if we don't obey what He has already told humanity in the Bible.

God has forbidden all idol worship, for idolatry of any kind proves that we are not in a right relationship with the Self-Existent One, the Eternal One, whether we worship self, things, or other people. Idols are anything we seek first, instead of taking our concerns and petitions directly to the One True God.

2 Kings 17:41
So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

Those people were afraid of God because they did not want to know Him personally. They put worldly things and religious behaviors ahead of seeking God, and they continued deceiving themselves into thinking and acting as if their idols were gods, even after they were repeatedly told God's truth.

If you want peace and redemption from and with God Almighty, then please read His Word, the Bible. The Bible's books of John and Romans summarize many principles of what God wants for us and show us the way of His only plan of salvation.
