As
old-time North American treaty breakers were said to “speak with forked tongue”,
so it is that our current president continues to reverse and countermand his
previous stances with regard to the use and abuse of executive powers and
orders. What threats and abuses of power he once decried and dismissed, he now
gingerly wields to try to blackmail the U.S. Congress, that he might force his
amnesty of illegal aliens upon U.S. citizens. What he once claimed to disdain,
he now seems to love, now that he’s had a taste of how, “Power tends to
corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” (Lord Acton: Sir John
Dalberg-Acton: 1834-1902)
It is high time for the U.S. Congress to start acting as if it believes our U.S. Constitution, time for Congress to push back the excesses of this presidency, and the excesses of prior presidents.
