"Chocolate Bar Mentality" Is Killing USA

I just received this YouTube link. It's CRAZY!! It was emailed to me by a fellow war vet and friend. Thanks, Dave.

The linked video shows just how badly American thinking is geared toward immediate gratification, instead of toward rational and evaluative thinking.

Not only is the 'contest operator' offering people a choice, but he is also doing it just a few steps away from a highly visible jewelry+coin store. That store could have easily assessed the true value of that 10 oz. slab of silver bullion for any one of those 'winners', IF they had only chosen the silver instead of the chocolate. Any one of those ‘winners’ who chose chocolate instead of the silver could have taken the bullion, cashed it in, and bought themselves at least 75 times the number of chocolate bars. That doesn't even required a work ethic, just the slightest bit of practical sense.

It's amazing, also, to hear the reasons that the 'winners' gave, why they chose chocolate instead of that much more valuable bar of silver. WOW! Where are our minds in this country? The implications of that test are HUGE!

I’m gravely concerned that that kind of ‘chocolate bar mentality’ is going to prevail (AGAIN!) at the election polls next year, with voters picking politicians who promise them something sweet and tasty to satisfy their immediate urges, instead of voters picking people who may look hard and tough, but, who can help voters gain the means to greater long term value in life, and with the only requirement being a little bit of the voters’ own effort.

The choice between an immediate snack versus something longer lasting, is a perennial question for voters everywhere. We can easily test the value of short-sighted, short-term 'chocolate bar mentality' choices, by looking at the trillions of dollars of national debt that we are handing to our progeny, trillions of dollars of political 'chocolate bars' that our nation has eagerly consumed. The 'chocolate bars' were quickly consumed and yet the debt must still be paid. As with any over-indulgence, our propensity for immediate gratification and its weight is crushing us. That self-indulgent ‘chocolate bar mentality’ is a huge part of what is ruining U.S. citizens, and our nation, as a whole.
