Preferences or Principles? Hypocrisy or Perseverance?
Living by personal or social preferences, many people are willing to negotiate away virtually everything about themselves before laying their lives on the line for anything. Whether seeking earthly peace, or personal safety or convenience, people who live by preferences, by definition, reject absolute standards and absolute moral values, any time that some inconvenience, passion, or peer pressure sways their preferences.
People who live by their principles are more steadfast, more immutable, more reliable, and are FAR MORE willing to die for what they claim to believe. Being willing to cling to Standards and Principles, the self-sacrificing faith and commitment of principled people provides courage and strength that builds godly families and secures godly society.
I'm not saying that I am better than anyone else. Nor do I claim that I always act in accordance with what I believe. When I fail to live up to what I believe, I surely prove myself a hypocrite. BUT, when I face my hypocrisy and failure, I know that I need to get right with Jesus Christ, that I might get back up and resume doing what is good, right, and of godly principle.
